We relate to these movies strongly because, at an unexplained level they are expressing truth to us, which we understand. A truth which seems mystical, but unexplainable. In particular, AVATAR and THE INCEPTION, are excitingly strange, but our hearts and our minds accept them with unexpected knowingness.
